Q: How do I become a DJ at WRFL?
A: First, you need to fill out an application. You can visit the the station during office hours and pick up an application form or fill out one online. Application forms go to the Training Director, who will go through the applications as needed. We seek honest people, who have a diverse appreciation of music. You should have a commitment to the station and the philosophy behind it.
Q: Do DJs at WRFL get paid?
A: No. All deejays are volunteers who donate their time.
Q: If I started DJing at WRFL, would I have to do a really late night shift?
A: This depends, but more than likely a deejay first starting out will get stuck with a not so great timeslot. DJs that have been with us the longest and put the most into the station have seniority over the good time slots. DJs just starting out have to pay their dues like everyone else that came before them.
Q: I have a CD I'd like WRFL to play. What do I need to do?
A: Send it to the Music Director.

Q: Why is it that sometimes I listen to WRFL and you are playing great music, and other times you are playing a bunch of crap?
A: Good question. You see, WRFL is dedicated to being a completely free radio station with the most diverse programming in the region. We play things on the air that you won't hear anywhere else on the radio dial. The deejays have almost complete autonomy in the selection of music that goes over the airwaves, and every deejay has a much different idea of what’s good. Corporate owned radio stations in the area might only play 1000 different songs a year, where a station like WRFL will play 900,000 a year. To put it simply, if WRFL didn't play stuff that didn't like now and then we wouldn't be doing our job.
Q: My band is touring around, and we'd like to do a show in Lexington. Can you guys hook us up?
A: Possibly. It all depends on finances, venue availability, promotion time, etc. Contact the promotions director at promotions@wrfl881.org
